le Gargoyle

Gargoyle for cghub challenge :P Here's the description we were given to work from

"High above the city sits a sole figure, made from stone atop the cities cathedral, no one really knows how old the figure is or where it was carved or whom carved the creature, but all know it watches. Most people think it a statue or decoration but it is more than that, this being is the protector of not just the cathedral but the city itself. "

A couple of more, tops ones were  pretty quick, 1 or 2 minutes in charcoal, the lower ones were a bit longer, around 5 minutes I think and done with black pencil.

Some charcoal and marker lifedrawing sketches that I spent some more time on after the session.

Cowboyers

Started out as a charcoal and white chalk drawing that I scanned and added some elements in photoshop - the riders, the moon, the sky gradient and some blades of grass and I roughed up the trees a bit as well. The mountain and most of the foreground are as scanned though with minor contrast tweaks.

Girl study

Got my hands on some waters soluble oils and tried them out with this painting.

It's from a photo I came across on tumblr. Done 90% with a palette knife and fingers for transitions. Gotta say, painting with a palette knife is so satisfying, you feel like Jedi when you swing that thign around and stab at the canvas. Yum! Did some slight color correction in Photoshop on the background, I kept getting warm gradients on it for some reason. Might take a better photo with another camera at some other point.

Also ruined a pair of my favorite pants in the process because  I was sitting with the canvas resting on my lap/desktop :)
